About us
The Disciples movement did not originally intend to become a denomination. The earliest Disciples were part of a movement to foster the unity of the church for the sake of Christ's mission. Nevertheless, we evolved into a distinct group within the universal church that has a particular identity and witness.
Visit us and you will find ten common characteristics that uniquely combine to form the distinctive characteristics of the Disciples of Christ:
- Weekly observance of communion
- The prominent place of the Bible in the community of faith
- Believer's baptism by immersion
- Open membership
- An attitude of tolerance and a rejection of creeds as tests of faith
- Congregational, yet voluntarily connectional
- The inclusion of the leadership of women
- An emphasis on lay leadership
